Winner of the AVT/Anéla Dissertation Award

I’m honoured to have won the AVT/Anéla Dissertation Award 2012 for my thesis The Meaning and Use of Ideophones in Siwu. For this award, jointly presented by the Dutch Society for General Linguistics (AVT) and the Dutch Association for Applied Linguistics (Anéla), an independent jury chooses the best dissertation in linguistics defended at a Dutch university.

The jury report (in Dutch) can be found here.

In brief, the jury praised the thesis as “an exceptionally thorough piece of work, very well written and accessible to a degree rarely exhibited in dissertations in linguistics”, mentioning that it scored high in terms of “methodology, crafsmanship, originality and clarity of reporting”. Despite fierce competition, the verdict was unanimous.
